Why Was I Given So Many Tickets For My DUI Case?

in General DUI Q & A

When an officer pulls an individual over and they are subsequently charged with a DUI, he/she will typically write multiple other tickets for other violations that are alleged to have occurred. The biggest concern whenever a client contacts me is that this means they are somehow in more trouble, or that their fines/costs are going to be substantially greater than a typical case.

However, absent egregious circumstances, if some sort of negotiated agreement is worked out with the state involving court supervision for example, the state will typically dismiss nearly all of the other tickets. This means no extra points on your driving record in additional to no extra fines besides the DUI.  Some examples of extra citations could be improper lane change, failure to reduce speed, speeding, etc.
